Wow! My first, in-person music job since the pandemic landed, and at just the right time. I was offered to this opportunity to co-facilitate a drum circle on the deck of the USS Iowa! What?!
Yes! Myself, Jenn RhythmMuse Vallely and Peruvian cajon master, Gino Gamboa will be representing UCLArts & Healing in a drum circle for Los Angeles Unified School Distric’s Outdoor Education program on the deck of “The Grey Ghost” this Saturday April 24th.
They will be filming us for a video series to be used by LAUSD’s Outdoor Education program. Ten to 12 children from L.A. will be our participants as we lead them through a group drumming, social and emotional experience with rhythm as our ship.
Gino and I love working together. We had a blast at our last drum circle, facilitating for Differently-abled Students Programs and Services, (DSPS) in Venice, CA. A tag-team of drum circle facilitation in action! Look out people, cuz here we come again!
I am honored that my mentor, Ping Ho, Founder and Director of UCLArts & Healing, Social Emotional Arts program, reached out me to lead this drum circle event. “ I love having our fabulous, in-house team of you and Gino.” In gratitude, we will do our professional best for L.A. USD’s Outdoor Education series.
The answer to the above quote is… Alexander Graham Bell.
He is credited with saying this. However, my gut feeling is that either his spouse, mistress, mother or other significant woman in his life, spoke these words to him as consolation and encouragement while he was working on his many inventions.
Doing what comes naturally.
Peace,
Jenn
